5 from 4: Maxi Gómez' perfect scoring streak against Real Sociedad
Saturday's LaLiga season opener is an opportunity for Maxi Gómez to make his official debut for Valencia CF, but also an opportunity to play against one of the opponents who have suffered most at his hands. The Uruguayan has played against Real Sociedad on four occasions, and has put five goals past the Basque club in that time.
It was on his LaLiga debut for Celta Vigo, on Matchday 1 of the 2017/18 season, that the Uruguayan began his successful streak against the Txuri-Urdin. It took him just 22 minutes to get off the mark, from teammate -and now colleague at Valencia CF- Daniel Wass' assist.
The striker made it a brace on 50 minutes, and although Celta would lose thanks to a late Willian José penalty, Gómez announced his arrival in style.
In the return fixture, held on January 21st, 2018, it was the turn of Paysandú's favourite son to grab the winner. Again Wass set him up, as he converted in the 75th minute of the 1-2 victory at Anoeta.
Last season he scored a consolation goal in San Sebastian, as well as rounding off a fightback from 0-1 down with an injury time strike to give Celta a 3-1 win.
Gómez is in contention for a starting role on Matchday 1, and has adapted quickly in preseason. A chance to extend one of his best streaks in LaLiga awaits if called upon.
